A MAN from Inyathi has been dragged to court for allegedly assaulting his employer with a metal bar following a dispute over his outstanding salary.
The incident which left Bekithemba Mkandla, 58, the owner of Douglas Mine, hospitalised at Inyathi District Hospital occurred at around 7PM on Saturday.
Obvious Thwala, 28, of Douglas Mine Compound in Inyathi, was arrested a day after the attack.
Thwala pleaded not guilty to assault charges when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Steven Ndlovu on circuit at Inyathi court.
He was remanded in custody to November 23 for trial.
Thwala was denied bail as his victim is still hospitalised and is waiting to go for an X-ray to determine the extent of his injuries. The suspect told the court that he never assaulted Mkandla but they just had an argument.
"Your worship, I respect Mkandla as my father and on the day in question we had a long argument because he owes me some money. I spoke to him but I never assaulted him," he said.
Prosecuting, Zivanai Hlomayi told the court that on November 7 at around 7PM, Thwala went to Mkandla's place of residence and a misunderstanding arose.
"The accused asked for his money which Mkandla owed him. Upon being told he didn't have the money, Thwala picked up a metal bar and assaulted Mkandla on the shoulder three times," said the prosecutor.
After the attack, he allegedly ran away from the scene and left a helpless Mkandla on the ground.
A report was made to the police after Mkandla was rushed to hospital by some workers leading to Thwala's arrest the next day.
