One Consen Nkala (28) from Jotsholo in Matabeleland North should not be made a judge of any music talent search competition because he might end up attacking contestants leaving them for dead.
That is what he did to Bekezela Mpofu (32), his neighbour, when he axed him for singing in discord.
The two are neighbours and Nkala on his way from a beer binge passed by Mpofu's homestead. When he got there, Mpofu, who is a member of a church choir, was practising his singing.
Nkala then told Mpofu that he was off tune but in turn, Mpofu told Nkala to mind his own business.
Nkala took offence at Mpofu's response and then took out his portable axe. He axed Mpofu twice on the head, once on the left shoulder and once on the left hip.
Mpofu bled profusely and was rushed to St-Lukes hospital for treatment.
Appearing for the State, prosecutor Sanders Sibanda revealed the gravity of harm caused by Nkala.
"Mpofu sustained injuries on the mouth and two deep cuts on the head. A medical report could not be produced as an exhibit," Sibanda said.
With the issue now before the court of law, Nkala took stock of his actions. He could only attribute them to alcohol. That did not save him from jail.
He was slapped with three months imprisonment for a physical abuse charge by Lupane resident magistrate Ndumo Masuku.
