Chaos is reported to have started at the Beitbridge border post as South Africa immigration officers assisted by the home affairs department are said to be allegedly harassing and delaying to clear most of the Zimbabweans who are travelling to South Africa on unclear conditions.
A source who witnessed the commotion said the clearing process was taking a long time to a point where the vehicles going to SA queued up to the Zimbabwean side.
"There is chaos at the Beitbridge post with a lot of travellers mainly Zimbabweans spending hours at the border" said the source.
"The immigration officers were being assisted by home affairs officers who were just very rough. It seemed they were specifically roped in to ensure that they stifle the life of Zimbabweans who wished to cross to South Africa."
He said one official even held one Zimbabwean and told him, that travelling to South Africa is a privilege not a right.
"Go back to Zimbabwe" the official is alleged to have said.
The source said the officials were very tough on Zimbabweans and rudely called them names.
"Zimbabweans queued up to the Zimbabwean side with buses that had arrived at around 12 midnight not yet left at 9 am in the morning" said the source.
"Zimbabwean government must intervene to stop such ill-treatment of its citizens by rogue home affairs official."
Reports say as the festive season has started troops of Zimbabweans are seen crossing into South Africa to either purchase some goods or spend holiday contrary to some years back where many Zimbabweans in that country would be seen starting to enter Zimbabwe for the holiday.
