A WOMAN from Hwange allegedly attacked her husband with cooking stick and iron bar accusing him of talking to a small house through his cellphone.

This was after he went out of the house at the time he was receiving the call.

Sekai Mwembe (19) pleaded guilty to an assault charge when she appeared before Hwange Magistrate Sharon Roseman. The magistrate convicted and sentenced her two months which was suspended on condition she performed 70 hours of community service at Cinderella Clinic.

Mwembe assaulted her husband who works as a security guard.

When asked why she committed the offence, Mwembe said, "He had been speaking to his girlfriend on the phone as he had engaged in extra marital affairs but he denied it, he has since stopped giving me money and buying me food. That is why I got angry and assaulted him."

But the husband gave a contrasting version of the story.

"I found her in the bush with a certain man and when I confronted them the man ran away. I later discovered that the man was a workmate at the mine. When I queried to her about it, she got angry and attacked me," he said.

The prosecutor Onias Nyathi told the court that on November 27 this year at 9pm Mwembe came home and found her husband sleeping. After some minutes a mobile phone rang and he went out to receive it. This did not go down well with Mwembe who then requested to known who was talking to her husband but the man refused to tell her.

She then ran amok and assaulted him with cooking stick and iron bar all over the body before biting him once on the left side of the stomach. The man reported the assault to the police leading to his wife's arrest.
