With heavy rains prevailing across the Southern African region, Zimbabwean authorities have issued flood warnings for points in the south and west of the country including Plumtree, Beitbridge, Muzarabani and Tsholotsho.
Flooding has claimed at least 40 lives in South Africa and 13 in Mozambique in recent weeks. Rains have also caused damage to crops.
Deputy Director Sibusisiwe Ndlovu of Zimbabwe's Department of Civil Protection said parts of Mashonaland Central province are at risk of being flooded by overflow from the Kariba Dam on the Zambezi River. Residents of Muzarabani, Mashonaland Central, close to the border with Mozambique, have already reported flooding in the area.
Ndlovu said teams from her office have been dispatched to high risk areas to warn villagers to move to higher ground.
