A MENTALLY challenged man from Denje area in Filabusi committed suicide by hanging himself in his bedroom hut early on Monday morning.
His father cut the rope but that could not save the man who had already lost consciousness.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nkosilathi Sibanda identified the now deceased as Phillip Tshuma.
He said the incident occurred at around 5AM when a boy who was sleeping with Tshuma went out to fetch water.
"The 12- year-old boy went out to fetch water from a nearby borehole and when he came back he realised that the door to the bedroom hut had been locked. He then peeped through the window and saw Tshuma hanging," he said.
Asst Insp Sibanda said the boy reported the matter to the man's father who forcibly opened the door and cut the rope.
The man tried to resuscitate his son to no avail.
The police spokesperson said a report was made to the police who then took him to Filabusi hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
