Villagers at Mawane area in Matabeleland South have expressed concerns over shortage of boreholes in the area a development which they say leads them to scramble for water at the only one available borehole which at times gets locked.

One of the villagers who identified himself as Dube told Bulawayo24 that Mawane 2 villagers were in serious need of help as they were having problems in getting water for drinking and domestic use due to shortage of boreholes.

"Mawane 2 villagers are suffering in terms of accessing water:" he said.

"They fetch water from a Garanyemba river close to the bridge because the borehole at Mawane 2 always run dry."

He said people wake up early in the morning to queue for water and the borehole is always locked.

"What remains is that there is a need for the drilling of more boreholes in Mawane," Dube said.

This comes at a time when more of Matabeleland South have not received rains since last year prompting more fears of alarming drought an starvation in the province.
