Man rapes and infects niece rape with STI

A 25-YEAR-OLD man from Lalapanzi has appeared in court for allegedly raping and infecting his 12-year-old niece with genital warts, a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI).
The man, from Lower Duntroon in Lalapanzi, appeared before Gweru Regional Magistrate Morgan Nemadire facing one count of rape.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to February 4.
"The girl once went missing for about two weeks and was nowhere to be found. So she might have been engaging in sexual intercourse with some men during that period," the man said.
"Furthermore it's said that the victim's elder sister once told her mother that she was engaging in love affairs."
Prosecutor, Emmanuel Matose said some time last year, the man entered the girl's bedroom hut when she was asleep.
The court heard that he woke her up saying he wanted to play with her.
Matose said the girl refused and jumped from the bed heading towards the door."The accused grabbed the victim and pushed her to the bed and closed the door. The girl shouted for help but no one came to rescue her," he said.
The court heard that the man then raped his niece once. Matose said after the rape, the man warned the complainant against disclosing the matter to anyone, promising to give her some money to buy her silence.He said the complainant told her sister about the rape and the matter was reported to the police.
The prosecutor said the complainant was taken for medical examination and tests revealed that she had contracted genital warts.
