Gwanda villagers face starving as huge amounts of maize aid is stuck at the Grain Marketing Board due to shortage of sacks and money.
This was disclosed last week on Friday during a Gwanda Rural District Council full meeting.
In a report presented by the Department of Social Welfare said "They have asked villagers to supply three sacks per household so that they are given maize in January to March.
"Maize is there but they can't deliver the maize at our local deport as they have no money to pay loaders.
"So they have said maize will come direct to the wards but villagers have to pay the transporter to deliver the maize to their respective wards".
Councillors for ward 17, Ephraim Nyathi said "They can't give that excuse when people are starving. They should use that personnel to offload the maize. If they don't have personnel to offload the maize, who then is off-loading their mealie-meal, beans and other products they sell at the deport?".
