560 hours community service for incest

A 23-year-old Beitbridge man was yesterday slapped with 560 hours of community service for having an incestuous affair with his 15-year-old half sister.
The man from the Chituripasi area was also accused of impregnating his sister. The siblings were convicted on their own plea of guilty when they appeared before Mr Carrington Karidzagundi.
The man, who was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, had eight years suspended for five years, leaving him to serve an effective 16 months prison sentence. He can avoid doing time behind bars if he performs 560 hours of community service at Chituripasi Registrar General's sub office.
His half sister was cautioned and discharged after the court felt her brother had lured her into the affair.
It is the State case that the man and the juvenile were born of the same father with different mothers. Sometime in January, the duo became lovers and consummated their relationship on several occasions as their father slept. The incetuous liaisons continued until the girl fell pregnant. The father discovered the affair and reported the matter to the police.
The man was arrested when he returned from South Africa where he was employed.
