A NEW born baby survived hours alone in an animal-infested forest where her mother allegedly dumped her soon after birth.

Sibonokuhle Ntini, a widow, allegedly dumped the baby at Chamabondo forest in Victoria Falls on Wednesday last week. The forest is home to predators like lion, leopards and snakes.

The healthy baby weighed 3,6kg.

Ntini was arrested a day later after police launched a manhunt following a report by a Good Samaritan, David Sibanda of Mkhosana suburb, who rescued the tot.

Sibanda rushed the baby to Victoria Falls District Hospital.

Ntini is, however, still to appear in court as prosecutors yesterday referred the docket back to the police station for further investigations.

Ntini has two minor children from her marriage to Lazarus Ndlovu who died in January last year.

"She has to go for counselling and be monitored by a probation officer to see if she can be given the baby before she can come to court. She will be summoned to come on Friday (today) pending the probation officer's report," said prosecutors as they addressed the docket back to the police.
