A married Lupane woman - Sandile Mdlongwa strangled her new born baby to death and hid the body under her bed.
Mdlongwa said she did not want the baby to suffer because she was poor.
She had given birth last Friday around 5pm and immediately killed the baby and hid the corpse in a bucket.
She confided the act to a neighbour.
However, her neighbour sold her out by altering Mdlongwa's mother in law.
She said in court "I didn't want our child to suffer because there was no money for preparations and for his upkeep.
"I didn't want to see him suffer because my husband is not gainfully employed".
But her husband, Gerald Moyo said Mdlongwa was lying that he could not fend for the child.
It is not true that I fail to support my children because I am always hired to do piece jobs by neighbours".
