A NURSE at Gwanda Provincial Hospital allegedly assaulted and raped a prostitute whom he had taken to his room from a nightspot for sex.

This came to light when Tariro Takavarasha, 24, of E17 Gwanda Provincial Hospital quarters appeared before regional magistrate, Joseph Mabeza, facing one count of rape and a second for assault.

The matter was postponed to March 11 after Takavarasha requested time to seek a lawyer. Mabeza granted the application and remanded the nurse in custody in a matter in which Johannes Tlou appeared for the state.

Tlou told court that just after midnight on February 23 this year, Takavarasha met the prostitute at a nightspot and invited her to his place of residence for the two to be intimate.

It is alleged that when they went into the nurse's room at the hospital, the two removed their clothes and got ready for sex.

The prostitute allegedly advised him to wear a condom but he allegedly refused, and a row ensued.

Takavarasha then allegedly turned violent and threatened to kill the prostitute before raping her once.

After the alleged sex attack, it is claimed he assaulted the woman with an unknown object and she sustained a deep cut on the forehead.

She fled from the house, the court heard, after Takavarasha had gone out to fetch a bucket for her to pee.

The prostitute allegedly left her undergarments and shoes in the nurse's room.
