A MAN from Bulilima has been arrested for threatening to bewitch three police officers based at Madlambuzi Police Station by unleashing a baboon to attack them.

Urgent Ncube, 38, of Bhaghani area, visited the police station on Sunday intending to pay a fine for his brother, Tafara Ncube, who had been arrested for disorderly conduct but ended up being arrested for threatening police officers.

He told the cops that even though they had recently killed a black mamba that was found at the station, he would send a baboon to deal with them for allegedly failing to assist him to recover his money from a local businessman.

Ncube pleaded guilty to a charge of threats to assault when he appeared before Plumtree magistrate Gideon Ruvetsa.

He begged for leniency saying he had merely made empty threats.

"I erred Your Worship and I apologise. I was angry and I just uttered those words but I was never going to do it. When I said it I had no idea that I would end up being arrested.

"I don't even own a baboon and I don't practise witchcraft but I just wanted to scare them so that they would offer effective services. Please pardon me Your Worship,'' Ncube said.

Ruvetsa warned and cautioned him.

Prosecuting, Jane Phiri said Ncube threatened the cops on February 28 for allegedly failing to assist him to recover money he was owed.

"He went on to shout at the top of his voice telling cops that they had recently killed a snake which had appeared at the police station and were set to see worse as he would send a baboon to attack them,'' said Phiri.

She said Ncube was immediately arrested.
