ANOTHER Midlands State University employee killed himself after a heated argument with his wife. Themba Manjoro, employed by MSU under the campus police department, hanged himself in Senga high-density suburb yesterday morning.

The Herald claims that it is reliably informed that Manjoro was being physically and verbally abused by his wife and opted to kill himself.

Manjoro becomes the third MSU employee to die either by murder or suicide this year. A female lecturer was brutally murdered by her husband over infidelity last month. A senior lecturer committed suicide by downing poison the same month.

MSU Campus police officer in charge Inspector Patrick Chademana confirmed Manjoro's death. He could not shed more light on the circumstances surrounding his death. "We have received the news that he passed on but I understand that it has nothing to do with the institution. It was not work related.

"The best persons to talk are the relatives of the deceased. "I cannot comment on issues to do with his private and personal life," he said. Mr Chademana referred further questions to MSU spokesperson Mrs Mirirai Mawere.

Impeccable sources said on the fateful day, Manjoro was summoned by Mr Chademana from the MSU Zvishavane campus and he accompanied him home. It is alleged that Manjoro had a heated argument with his wife.

He told his sons he was going to kill himself as he was tired of the abuse. "He took a long rope and went to the nearby fields between Senga and Daylesford after informing his son," said a relative, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Mourners said Manjoro's wife was abusive and sometimes refused to give him food. "Manjoro was like a prisoner in his own house. His wife was very abusive. When he was deployed to Zvishavane, his wife would refuse to give him money or even maize meal," he said.

Efforts to get comment from Manjoro's wife were fruitless yesterday.
