A BINGA man died after he was slapped twice on the face by his drunken friend on the eve of Independence Day following an argument over a yet to be ascertained reason.
Nicholas Muleya of Saba Village under Chief Saba died on the spot after he was allegedly slapped by his friend Luyeyo Mumpande (28) during a drinking spree at Kabila Bar.
Mumpande appeared before Binga magistrate Mrs Ailene Munamati last week charged with murder.
He was remanded in custody to 3 May and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecuting, Mr Bruce Maphosa said on 17 April, Muleya and Mumpande were drinking beer at the bar in Saba before an argument ensued.
"Mumpande then assaulted Muleya with open hands after the two were seen exchanging harsh words. Mumpande slapped Muleya twice resulting in him collapsing. He remained unconscious for some time and later died," said Mr Maphosa.
"The police were called, leading to the arrest of Mumpande."
He said Muleya's body was taken to Bulawayo for a post-mortem and the results have not yet been availed.
