Zimbabwe radio awards nominees
10 May 2016 at 02:15hrs | Views
A local online entertainment magazine Celebrity-check will on July 16 hold the inaugural Zimbabwe radio awards which will see radio personalities from local radio stations being honoured. The awards ceremony would be held at 7 Arts Theatre in the capital. More than 50 radio personalities are battling for honours in at least 30 categories that include Best Urban Female Presenter/Producer, Best Urban Male Presenter/Producer, Most Popular Urban Female Presenter/Producer, Most Popular Urban Male Presenter/Producer and Best DJ.
In an interview, project director Agrippa Palazi said the awards are meant to honour radio personalities for their tiring work in informing and entertaining the nation on different issues.
"The Awards which are running under the theme "Honouring a celebrity behind a celebrity" are meant for Radio personalities in recognition of their good work in informing and entertaining people. The awards will help presenters and DJ's to be motivated in doing their jobs," he said.
He added that the awards which will involve the Major Radios like Star FM, ZiFM Stereo and the four radio stations owned by the Government (Power FM, Sport FM, Radio Zimbabwe, and National FM) and a number of online Radios is also going to be a platform to appreciate the radio DJs saying this will also create a competitive environment.
"This is a platform to appreciate the DJs and presenters, as well as honouring them for their value on radio and it comes as an advantage to radio personalities and musicians as they are able to learn how much they are appreciated for their work,
"It will create a competitive environment which will increase eligibility and improve the broadcast media in Zimbabwe and enhancing relationships between the media and its various stakeholders.
"Local and International recording labels, investors and advertisers will also be enlightened in investing into Zimbabwean talent and broadcast media," he said.
He said it also helps to support musicians as they will be noticed nationwide on radio and if DJs and presenters actually like the content of the music.
"They should be an annual Charity Event whereby Presenters, DJs and Musicians can sell their content/hold a concert to compliment the event," he said.
