ZIMBABWE'S renowned businessman and former heavy weight boxer, John 'Bonyongo the Destroyer' Mutema (61) has died. Also affectionately known as 'Bombamupani', Mutema suffered a stroke at his Dulibadzimu home in Beitbridge Thursday morning.
Bonyongo quit boxing in 1999 after the death of the Man Mountain, Proud Chinembiri also known as Kilimanjaro since there no longer was a heavy weight boxer to fight him at that time.
Bonyongo is famed for being the last man to fight Kilimanjaro at Ascot Stadium in Gweru in 1994 and lost on a technical knockout after suffering a gash on the right eye.
Family spokesperson and elder sister, Hilda Mutema said her brother suffered a stroke between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. He was taken to Beitbridge District hospital by his son Brian where he later died.
