President Robert Mugabe has come under attack for vowing to do a "Gukurahundi" on dissident war veterans.

A cross section of Zimbabweans took to social media to condemn Mugabe over his 'reckless' remarks.

Addressing a Zanu PF Central committee on  Thursday Mugabe threatened a crackdown on war veterans accusing them  of pushing for Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa to succeed him.

Mugabe said : "The dissidents tried it, they were war veterans and you know what happened. Lots of trouble, lots of fighting, lots of suffering of cause to our people, and these dissents activities cannot be allowed.

"Do we see another rise of dissident activity?

"Dissident activities cannot be allowed; it ended in December 1987 when Cde Joshua Nkomo and I put our hands together and our hearts together to say never again shall we allow this to happen."

Zimbabweans said this show that Mugabe does not have regrets of the massacre of more than 20000 people mainly in Matabeleland region.

Political analyst Alex Magaisa posted " And that was Gukurahundi, which as everyone now knows was brutal. Threatening it again shows he feels no remorse".
