A woman from Empumalanga in Hwange is in trouble after she severely assaulted a six year old child for putting human waste in his lunch box.
Sheila Nyoni (32) pleaded guilty to child ill-treatment charge when she appeared before Hwange magistrate Rosemary Dube.
She was sentenced to five months in prison wholly suspended on condition she performs 175 hours of community service at the Hwange Courts.
The woman said the child was her brother's son and she had been looking after him because her brother was divorced.
"I was angered by his tendency to soil himself and putting his faeces in his lunchbox. That is what lead me to beat him up," she told the court.
A medical report compiled by a doctor revealed the boy sustained a lot of wounds all over the body. The doctor indicated that the boy was likely to suffer emotional even when the scars heal.
The prosecutor Hilda Maseko told the court that on July 12 this year, Nyoni being a parent for a six year old child, allegedly ill-treated the child by hitting him with a stick several times in a manner likely to cause him unnecessary suffering or to injure or detrimental affect his health or functions of his mind or both.
A report made to the police led to the woman's arrest.
