Go well our Hero
Statement from Gwanda Residents Association on the passing on of Deputy Commissioner General Rhodes Moyo
On behalf of all residents and stakeholders of Gwanda, The Gwanda Residents Association joins the entire nation in mourning the death of probably the highest ranked government official to come from our town Retired Deputy Commissioner General Rhodes Moyo.
The untimely death of DCG Moyo came as a shock to the entire Gwanda community as he was last seen by most people in the town full of life and agonisingly so his neighbours in the Jacaranda Suburb who last saw him in his normal self going for his routine early morning jog on the fateful Thursday morning.
The death of DCG Moyo has indeed robbed us as Gwanda of a real dedicated son of the Jahunda soil.
DCG Moyo, showed his true commitment and love for his home town of Gwanda when he opted to invest his retirement life in Gwanda of all possible places he would have opted for.
It is norm with most people that when they rise to the level that DCG Moyo rose to they disregard their traditional home towns and opt for the flashy life somewhere in the upmarket suburbs of Harare.
True to his humility and love for his people DCG Moyo chose to come back and invest in our otherwise disregarded town of Gwanda and built his house which easily matches the houses in those leafy Harare suburbs amongst our own ordinary houses here in Gwanda.
As Gwanda we were delighted by the return to his roots of DCG Moyo as through the corner of our eyes we were already seeing that potential person we have been lacking who we were going to second to stand for us in the highest possible areas.
His untimely death has indeed robbed of us that opportunity to stand up and be heard as Gwanda through him and for him to begin to plough back to his community.
Gwanda remains proud and forever indebted to DCG Moyo as he stood high as a beacon and proved to all that indeed something great can also come from Gwanda.
DCG Moyo has proven and inspired all our younger generations to believe that we can also do it and that it is only stereotype belief that some of these high ranking positions in the country are only a preserve of probably people from elsewhere not Gwanda.
As Gwanda we would like to thank the systems within the Prisons and Correctional Services for believing in one of us by giving him the responsibility to serve the country at such a high level.
This motivates us to renew our call to all other government departments and the private sector to have confidence in the children from Gwanda and give them an opportunity to serve as DCG Moyo has with high accord exhibited our capabilities as Gwanda.
We send our sincere condolences as the Gwanda community to mama, the children, grand children, the entire Moyo - Mhambi family, the Mtemerera family, the Prisons and Correctional Services and the entire populace touched by this sad loss.
We invite the family left behind by DCG Moyo to freely come forward and belong to the greater Gwanda family and hope to see another Rhodes Moyo develop from the family and fill the huge leadership and fatherly gap that he has left for us as Gwanda and indeed as a country.
May his dear soul Rest In Peace.
