Man rapes 5-year-old niece, threatens to kill her

A man from Lupane area in Matabeleland North has been slapped with an effective ten years for raping a 5-year-old child and threatening to kill her if she revealed the ordeal to anyone.
The man who is the minor's uncle (21) pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Hwange Regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga on Tuesday. The magistrate convicted and sentenced him to 12 years in jail. Two years of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
Prosecutor Bheki Tshabalala told the court that on August 25 at 1pm this year the minor was playing in the yard when her uncle called her to his bedroom while the child's mother was asleep.
When she got into the room the uncle raped her before threatening her with assault if she reported the rape to anyone.
The rape was discovered when a relative discovered a white discharge from her private parts.
