Broke BCC snub NUST

Bulawayo City Council has turned down a request by the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) to sponsor an award for its 19th graduation.

NUST is due to hold its annual graduation on November 4.

President Robert Mugabe is expected to grace the occasion as the university chancellor.

On August 22, NUST wrote to council requesting for sponsorship for best graduating student in the department of Records and Archives and Management.

"We would be very grateful if the cash/ voucher for this year's Prize/Awards could be sent to the Senior Assistant Registrar (Admissions and Student Records), by 14 October 2016, who will then forward the awards to the respective Department Prize Fund in the Bursars' Department" wrote NUST on a letter seen by Bulawayo24.com.

Council's engineering department suggested sponsoring STEM.

However, council said it was facing financial challenges " and would find it difficult to assist".

It then resolved to reject the request.
