Villagers in Matobo recently opposed the move by government to deploy soldiers to construct a classroom block at Nduna Primary school on condition that some time when the gun men were deployed for Maguta farming programme they politicised the programme on behalf of Zanu PF.
According to the Zimbabwe Peace Project's report in Matobo North, the headmaster of Nduna Primary School, Mr D Mpofu, announced that soldiers from Zimbabwe National Army would come to build a classroom block for the Early Childhood Department.
"Although this was supposed to be a good and well-intended program, the villagers at that meeting protested saying they would not feel comfortable in the presence of the military.
"One of the reasons was that, previously soldiers spearheaded Operation Maguta where they politicised food distribution in favour of Zanu PF supporters.
"Villagers remained skeptical despite the headmaster's assurance that the soldiers will not harm anyone," said ZPP.
