AN 18-year-old woman from Matobo district has dragged her husband of one week to court accusing him of kidnapping and raping her six times.

The woman, of Domboshaba Village and Qhubekani Maphosa (27), also from  the same village, started a love affair sometime in July this year but the    woman's family disapproved of the relationship.

The two started cohabiting sometime in September but that lasted for only a week as the woman's family took her back  home.

When Maphosa followed "his wife" to her home, she reportedly told him that she was no longer interested in the relationship and suggested that they end it.

This did not go down well with Maphosa who reportedly threatened her with unspecified action.

Maphosa allegedly went on to kidnap the woman and detained her for more than five hours in the bush where he raped her several times.

He allegedly later dragged her to his homestead where he allegedly raped her again for the whole night.

The woman alleged Maphosa forcibly took away her toddler, which was strapped on her back and put it on the ground all the time he assaulted and raped her.

Maphosa was yesterday arraigned before Bulawayo magistrate Mrs Sibongile Msipa facing six counts of rape and one count of kidnapping.

He was not formally charged and was remanded in custody to 23 December.

For the State, Mr Masimba Saruwaka told the court that sometime last month Maphosa went to the woman's home intending to see her.

The woman told him she was no longer interested in the relationship, which did not go down well with him.

The court heard that Maphosa returned on 30 November and assaulted the woman's brother who was at home before dragging her to a nearby bush where he detained her for five hours.

It is alleged that while in the bush, Maphosa raped the woman several times and assaulted her with switches in between each incident of rape.

At about 6pm, Maphosa allegedly dragged the woman to his home where he detained her again in his bedroom hut before raping her repeatedly throughout the night.

The court heard that each time Maphosa raped the woman, he put a knife under her head threatening to kill her if she screamed. He only released her the following day at about 10am.

The woman went and narrated her ordeal to her sister who then accompanied her to Natisa Police Base to make a report, leading to the arrest of Maphosa.
