Vice President Joice Mujuru has called on local churches under the ambit of the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe to maintain a balance between Christian and traditional values as opposed to embracing values brought by foreign churches.
She was speaking at St. Johns Matarutse Primary School in Mhondoro Mubaira during the appointment of Chief Nherera as patron of the ACCZ churches under his area of jurisdiction.
Mujuru commended the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe for recognising traditional values as evidenced by the appointment of some traditional leaders as patrons of apostolic sects in their respective areas.
Vice President Mujuru also hailed apostolic churches for supporting the revolutionary Zanu PF party which she said brought the freedom of worship which the sects did not enjoy during the colonial era.
She urged church leaders to be exemplary and shy away from committing crime such as rape.
President of the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe, the Right Reverend Johannes Ndanga said there should not be any conflict between apostolic churches and traditional institutions since the sects are founded on traditional values. rev ndanga.jpg
"The Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe will always support the party that promotes freedom of worship, and churches should protect the interests of the nation," he added.
Meanwhile, Mujuru also launched a tree-planting programme at St. Johns Matarutse Primary School.
Cabinet Ministers Webster Shamu, Ignatius Chombo and Sylvester Nguni as well as Senate President Edna Madzongwe also attended the event.
