Church organisations in Zimbabwe have been urged to pray against the increasing number of accidents following a blood bath during the festive season. Following the death of over 160 people in road traffic accidents since the 15th of December this year, the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe says all religious organisations should pray for the country as the number of lives that have been lost has been increasing.
The president of the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe, Bishop Johannes Ndanga, said while the police and the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe are mandated to deal with the issue of accidents, the church has a spiritual role to play as many innocent lives are being lost on the roads.
"As the church I think we have a role to play in praying for the nation, considering  the number of people who are perishing on the roads.
"This becomes a spiritual warfare and we are saying the church should prioritise this in prayer and have intercessors who pray particularly for accidents," he said.
Bishop Ndanga said there is also need for religious leaders to ensure that the elections that are expected to be held next year are peaceful and credible.
Although there is notable police presence on the roads people continue to die in road traffic accidents due to human error, defective vehicles and driving under the influence of alcohol.
