Church leaders on Friday confronted Prime MInister Morgan Tsvangirai to vent their displeasure at a number of clauses in the draft constitution that took place yesterday.

They included Charles and Pertunia Chiriseri of His Presence Ministries and Noah Pashapa among other eminent leaders who told PM Tsvangirai they were concerned that immorality and other satanic activities could find their way into Zimbabwean society.

Of great concern to the church leaders is the failure to 'explicitly ban abortion and practice of homosexuality'.

"We are worries that some of the clauses contained in the constitution could be manipulated to allow evil things like satanism, abortion and gays. We need to watertight this constitution and preserve our culture as Zimbabweans. If you go to the so-called demonic countries like South Africa, you will find things like abortion being practices," said Pertunia Chiriseri.

The clergymen are concerned the draft constitution does not protect unborn children even though it has a clause which prohibits 'deliberate abortion'.

"The phrase 'exceptional circumstances' that is in this constitution could be used by some people to commit abortion," said Chiriseri.

In his response to church leaders, PM Tsvangirai said it is their duty to be 'vigilant' in guarding against growth of immoral behaviour in the country. He said draft constitution prohibits homosexuality and abortion although the act is practiced illegally by some.

"Prohibiting it in the constitution does not mean that it is not there, the most important thing is tolerance. It will not be surprising in 100 years to come or less that we may have a gay government in the country. It is now up to you to vigilantly guard against that. The reason why gays are allowed in Europe is because some influential people are part of that government demanding gay rights.

The most important thing we must do is tolerance, at the same time we must not exceed our tolerance. When we are talking about tolerance, we are talking about understanding each other. Then the question is should we tolerate Satanism? No, there are some things that don't deserve such a stretch of tolerance," he said thereby seemingly implying that homosexuality could be accepted and allowed to some extent while Satanism would not be allowed at all.
