Four people were arrested by police in Glen Norah, Harare after burning down properties belonging to members of the Johane Masowe Apostolic Church in a suspected case of land dispute

Burnt were two gazebos which contained cellphones and clothing belonging to church.

Members of the church claimed they had left their belongings while going for a church service in Chitungwiza but on returning, they found the properties in ashes.

They also alleged that members of the Glen Norah Housing Pay Scheme were responsible as they claim ownership over the piece of land in question.

An executive member of the housing scheme, Mrs Tsvakai Munangatire, who is among those arrested, admitted to destroying the properties claiming they bought the land in 2008.

Members of the Glen Norah Housing Pay Scheme claim that members of the church were notified to vacate five years ago after the land was bought but have been resisting.

However, those belonging to the church argue that they could not leave their place of worship as the housing scheme kept bringing new and different papers of ownership.

The sect says they can only leave the land if a court of law orders them to do so.
