On the 24th of June 2013, the Daily Mail (UK) published a story featuring the headline "White-robed religious sect is keeping us awake": Noise complaints from people living near woodland because of 5.30am prayers and chanting. This story was picked up by several online newspapers and circulated as far as Southern Africa.
On the 21st of June 2013 BBC (Sheffield) carried out a radio interview with our spiritual leader Father Isaiah. A TV interview with BBC TV Leeds will follow on the 26th of June 2013.
On all interviews, Father Isaiah reiterated that "our group didn't really have a choice but to pray outdoors, because we have no building to worship in. As we do not have a permanent place to worship in Barnsley, we sometimes carry our early morning prayers in the Wilderness. In Africa, all our church members carry out their services in the open space, commonly called Wilderness, because by praying in the Wilderness we are close to nature and God," he said.
We are aware that our way of worshipping will not go unnoticed and do respect all views, comments and complaints made by different people within our community and abroad. We also would like to thank those giving positive suggestions.
We are a peace loving congregation and do not intend to cause any harm or discomfort to anyone. We are currently working hard to find halls we can use for our worshipping. The problem of getting a worshipping hall is not faced by the Barnsley congregation only. Our other congregations in London, Derby and Manchester are also facing the same problem. We would like to ask well-wishers, government authorities and members of the public to assist us in securing places for worshipping.
For instance, our London congregation has been holding prayers for the last few weeks in a house belonging to one of our devout members. As mentioned, we do not want to cause any disturbances to our neighbours, at the same time; we want to carry on doing the work of our Lord.
Our website shows some of the work and worshipping we are doing. Please, do not hesitate to visit our Contact Us page if you want to reach us.
May Peace Be Upon You!!!
