Church leaders in Zimbabwe have been urged to seek deliverance and shun worldly vices such as corruption and immorality which rocked several denominations in the year 2013.
The year 2013 will go down as one not so memorable for religious organisations particularly some churches which were embroiled in numerous scandalous matters from allegations of abuse, rape and corruption by church leaders and other immoral practices such as Satanism, dubious miracles and witchcraft related issues.
Elsewhere, the Roman Catholic Church leader, Pope Benedict XVI took a stern stance to fight the issue of sexual abuse within the church while back home, courts were inundated with several cases of sexual predators in the guise of pastors, prophets and church leaders of prominence, a case in point being the much-publicised trial of alleged serial rapist, Robert Martin Gumbura.
Moving into 2014, Prophet Walter Magaya, of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries, says church leaders need to be delivered first before they can take charge of their flock lest they lead their congregants astray.
For Apostolic Christian Council President, Bishop Johannes Ndanga, the proliferation of churches led by cunning con men who preach the gospel of prosperity is to blame for the rot in the church.
The year 2014 comes with expectation that churches will lead in the fight against societal ills with clergymen claiming high moral ground in the fight against evil.
