The three-day International Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses ended in Harare yesterday with the giant National Sports Stadium filled to capacity.
The convention, which ran under the theme "Keep Seeking First God's Kingdom" attracted thousands of people, with a bumper crowd of over 82 000 attending yesterday. So huge was the crowd that some speakers and giant screens were mounted outside at the National Sports Stadium B Arena to cater for those who failed to secure space inside.
The convention was conducted in Shona, English, Ndebele, Chinese and sign language and everyone was counted when entering the stadium.
Out of 3 500 international delegates, 2 000 were from United States of America, while 1 500 were from Brazil and Germany.
About 2 000 delegates came from African countries such as Zambia, Kenya, Mozambique and South Africa.
Spokesman Mr John Hunguka said Jehovah's Witnesses were very happy since this was their first ever international convention to be held in Zimbabwe.
"As Jehovah's Witnesses, we are very happy because this international convention was the first of its kind in Zimbabwe. The convention discussed what God's Kingdom is, how people are benefiting from it now and what it will do in the future. Jesus started ruling as king in 1914 and this convention marks 100 years since Jesus started ruling. It is inspiring that all biblical prophesies have been fulfilled, which means people can have faith in what God's kingdom will do for them in the future," said Mr Hunguka.
One of the delegates from Germany, Mr Felix Bornman, said he had a great experience in Zimbabwe and had benefited a lot from the convention as his faith was strengthened.
"It was a wonderful experience to attend this convention in Zimbabwe and l benefited a lot spiritually," said Mr Bornman.
Another delegate from the USA, Mrs Sheila Jones, said she had made life-long memories and joyous experiences to share with fellow Christians back home.
"The convention programme was spiritually beneficial and I am very happy to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses as we constitute a global family worldwide and I look forward to share my experiences with brothers and sisters back home," she said.
Regional conventions will be held in Karoi, Mutare, Gweru and Bulawayo so as to cater for those who failed to attend the National Sports Stadium event.
