POPULAR Sakubva prophet, Madzibaba Skynage Marwakuona who hogged the limelight last month for allegedly exorcising a teenager (14) who claimed that her Chipinge-based granny owned six hyenas, five snakes, one wild cat and five owls was on Wednesday assaulted by his wife over money.
Madzibaba Skynage (27), a devout member of Johane Masowe Wechishanu Wenguwo Chena allegedly had a fight with his wife, Madzimai Mercy on Wednesday morning, after the former tried to send money to an unknown woman against the decision of the latter, a development that triggered the brawl.
The jittery Madzibaba Skynage who seemingly to have been on the receiving end sustained a minor injury on his left cheek and had bloodstains on his white T-shirt.
He rushed to Chisamba Police Station to report the matter and Madzimai Mercy was temporarily detained.
Madzibaba who was accompanied by his twin brother was shocked to see news crew arriving at the police station and tried to pour cold water over the issue saying "it was nothing serious".
He begged our news crew not to publish the story saying it was not newsworthy and instead invited them to cover "more important things" happening at the shrine.
"It is nothing serious Madzibaba. I don't think it is worthy writing about. You can come to our shrine for better stories," said the jittery Madzibaba Skynage.
"It started this morning when I wanted to send some money to my mother's young sister in Harare so that she could come here and we have family time.
"This did not go down well with Madzimai who forcibly took away my wallet. She was against it and I don't know why. We had a brawl, but it was a minor thing that even people queuing at the shrine did not notice anything amiss.
"I rushed here because I am not a violent man. Our church encourages families to maintain peace as well as practice love and unity. I feared that the brawl could become worse and uncontrollable," said Madzibaba Skynage.
Chipping in, his twin brother Lawrence: "Madzimai has a problem of amplifying little problems.
"A simple altercation can be nasty, so seeking police intervention was the only way out. We believe in love and Madzibaba Skynage is a peace loving man.
"Munhu waMwari haana kana problem. We want to clear this issue and take Madzimai back home. We also came here for some counselling, otherwise all is well."
In response, Madzimai Mercy alleged that it was Madzibaba Skynage who first assaulted her before she retaliated as a way of defending herself.
"I don't even know the person he wanted to send money to. I asked about it and he started assaulting me. He was injured while I was trying to defend myself. He came to report first and that is why I am in here," said Madzimai Mercy.
She had a baby strapped on her back and was seated on the floor inside the charge office under the watchful eye of police officers who were handling the matter.
Business came to a halt in the sprawling suburb of Sakubva early last month after the girl he exorcised (name withheld) hissed and slithered on her tummy like a snake, claiming her Chipinge-based granny owns six hyenas, five snakes, one wild cat and five owls which she uses for witchcraft.
Inquisitive residents who thronged her house were left in awe after the teenager started hissing and slithering like a snake heading towards the sacred shrine.
Her scary eyes started rolling before she started spitting green-like saliva which Madzibaba claimed was poisonous.
The exorcism exercise which turned out to be a free-for-all drama drew scores of residents to the shrine.
