Prophetic Healing Deliverance (PHD) Ministries Walter Magaya lost $1 900 to a former worker Takudzwa Biza aged 20.
Biza 20 pleaded guilty to the unlawful entry charge when he appeared before magistrate Shelly Zvenyika, who remanded him in custody for sentence today.
Biza broke into the church's Waterfalls offices at around 1pm.
Asked how he gained access to the closely-monitored office, Biza said he was given keys to the office by one of the security officers who was manning the offices on Saturday last week.
The name of the security officer was not mentioned in court.
In mitigation, Biza said he wanted to settle his debts.
"I only stole the money because I was desperate to settle a debt. I am prepared to pay back the money to the church if I am given the chance to do so," he said.
Biza also told the court that he was no longer employed after he was suspended from work in June this year at the PHD Ministries where he worked in the sales and production department.
Tinashe Chihota appeared for the State.
