Christias should oppose the National Pledge
15 Apr 2016 at 09:43hrs | Views
As the Christian Changemakers we call on all Christians in Zimbabwe to join hands and resist the National Pledge that is being forced to us by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
By definition, a pledge is a solemn promise, a vow, a commitment, an oath, a covenant, a bond, a guarantee. A pledge or commitment is physical as it is emotional and spiritual.
Reasons we should oppose this pledge:
1. It violates our Christian beliefs and teachings as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ instructed us in Matthew 5 v 33 - 37 not to swear with anything including our hair. The Bible also warns us against swearing in James 5v12 and Leviticus 19v22.
2. It violates the fundamental founding principles of the Constitution of Zimbabwe which is based on the Supremacy of God. If we realize the Supremacy of God in Zimbabwe, we should realize His instruction NOT TO SWEAR/PLEDGE;
3. It violates our rights as put in Constitution of Zimbabwe in Chapter 4 Section 60 (2) which says "No person may be compelled to make an oath that is contrary to their religion or belief or take an oath in a manner that is contrary to their religion or belief".
What if my children pledge?
1. They will have opposed God's Word and thus have sinned before God and remember the Bible in Romans 6 v 23 is clear that the wages of sin is death;
What can you do?
The Bible is clear God has "appointed us over nations and kingdoms, to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and plant" (Jeremiah 1v10) . So, let us join hands and use that physical and spiritual power:
1. Pray daily as an individual, family, group or church against the pledge,
2. Educate others about the evils of the national pledge,
3. Join a group of campaigners and sign a petition or take any action against the pledge,
4. Stop your children from practising the pledge during this school holiday,
5. If the Ministry cant stop this pledge, dont allow your child to go and do the pledge on the 3rd of May 2016.
