One person died and two others were seriously injured when two haulage trucks side swapped at the 54 kilometre peg near Shangaani along the Gweru - Bulawayo highway.
One of the drivers died on admission at Gweru General Hospital while two people are admitted at the hospital.
The two haulage trucks were travelling from opposite directions; side swiped resulting in the drivers failing to control their trucks.
One of the trucks, which was transporting coal, plunged into a nearby river.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Infrastructural Development, Munashe Munodawafa urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when approaching construction sites along the country's major highways.
Mr Munodawafa also urged government and other stakeholders to consider looking into the issue of left hand vehicles seriously considering that Zimbabwe travel on the left side of the road.
The two trucks were all left hand drive vehicles.
He also said the movements of bulky goods should be given to the National Railways of Zimbabwe who have the capacity to do so.
