When exactly is the Judgement Day!'

In the name of prophecy, some people have come up with predictions of when the world will come to an end.

This has led to some people selling their properties and assets because of fear of the unknown.

Religious leaders have however warned members of the public to be aware of false prophets who are bent on instilling fear and confusion in society.

Fear that the world was coming to an end came after the revelation by a 90-year old American Christian radio broadcaster, Harold Egbert Camping, who has been predicting that judgment day will be on the 21st of May 2011.

Harold Camping, who at one time predicted September 6, 1994 as the day of rapture, has been quoted as using the Bible as his source of predictions.

This time, he had predicted that the 21st of May 2011 at 6pm will be the day of judgement, a day when all those who have been doing good will go and meet God in heaven.

Harold believed that the day will also see evil doers being burnt by a flame from heaven.

He quotes the 2 Peter 3:6-8 which says, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."

He says the flood of Noah's day occurred in the year 4990 BC and if it is substituted by 1000 years for each one of those 7 days, then it sums to 7000 years. So the projected 7000 years into the future from 4990 BC, falls on the year 2011 AD.

Those who heard of the prediction have their views.

"This man is one of false prophets who have flooded the whole world. I think this one needs to be sentenced to life in jail because the extent he has misled the whole world is just alarming," said one woman.

However, United Methodist Reverend , Austern Chepiri says as religious leaders, they follow what is written in the Bible.

"Aaccording to Matthew 24 verse 36, the Bible says, But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only," he said.

The predictions of the world coming to an end begun a long time ago and some notable predictions include the one in 1844 when William Miller predicted Christ would return between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844.

So all those days have come and gone and the prophets continue shifting goal posts, thus proving that only God knows the day.

Other predictions
1981 - Chuck Smith predicted that Jesus would probably return by 1981.

1992 - A Korean group, "Mission for the Coming Days", predicted October 28, 1992 as being the date of the Rapture.

1993 - Seven years before the year 2000; the Rapture would have to start to allow for seven years of the Tribulation before the Return in 2000.
