On 22 June Betty Makoni marked her 40th birthday and what a long journey she has trodded. She is the daughter to Davison Forimbo Makoni and the late Fiona Nenguwo Chagaresango. Both my parents come from Chieftainships.

Betty's whole life was marked with tragedies and unfortunate situations that made it very hard for her to achieve many things she would have wanted. Despite many challenges she faced from age 6 when she started vending on the dark streets of Chitungwiza to survive, be educated and render support to her mother she had a feeling that so much has been achieved for other girls like her in the years she started her activism which is what is important.

As she turned 40, she has decided to officially announce that her autobiography will be out in the near future and her Editor and adopted Mother Joanne Pritchard has put together the story in a more dignified way. For long she shared the story with many people and she is so grateful everyone who wrote about her did so with so much passion and sensitity. The feedback she got from many women and girls, boys and men has shown her what one story can do to inspire others. For those who made attempt to change her story through false stories, here is an opportunity to read her book and maybe ask for a day to sit down with her to get a better understanding why she worked for girls and that it is her life story that made it imperative for her to do so.

She did not celebrate her  birthday  as you  all know travel and work is always with her. She was in France on the day celebrating Ashoka Change Makers 30th anniversary and what a good coincidence to celebrate her birthday at a time when Ashoka the organisation that supported her so much is also celebrating.

Join her and her family and friends on Muzvare Betty Makoni show as they celebrate her birthday and unveil her forthcoming autobiography. If you miss her story rest assured you will have it posted everywhere.

Life begins at 40 and so on Tuesday she started another chapter of her life but the past 40 years is a chapter she feel when her book is out and many will be inspired.
