Was Joice Ambitious?

06 Dec 2014 at 19:40hrs | Views

Friends, Zimbabweans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to condemn Joice, not to praise her
The evils that men do lives after then
The good is oft interred with their bones;
So let it be with Joice.

Grace hath told you Joice was ambitious:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Joice answer'd it.
Here, under leave of Grace and the rest--
For Grace is an honourable lady;
So are they all, all honourable people--
Come I to speak in Joice's absence.

She was my Vice President for 10 solid years, faithful and just to me:
But Grace says she was ambitious;
She never held a lavish wedding for any of her daughters
She never moved her kith and kin from any land
She studied for her Doctorate,
She did not just phoned Vice Chancelor of the University demanding a doctorate
Yet Grace says Joice was ambitious
And Grace is an honourable Lady who took someone's husband.
Joice was in the liberation struggle in the thick of things, to liberate this country from the york of colonialism;

She served the country faithfully and just as Vice President for 10 years:
Did this in Grace seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Joice hath wept:
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff:
Yet Grace says she was ambitious;
And Grace is an honourable Lady.

You all did see the support  that Joice had in the party
You all see how she acted as the President many times, and yet she did not instigate a coup
Yet Grace says she was ambitious;
And, sure, she is an honourable Lady.

I speak not to disprove what Grace spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love Joice once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then, to grieve with her?

O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is with Joice at this moment,
And I must pause till it come back to me.
