Risk Management Advice: Be Aware of Car Remote Blocking Crime

20 Sep 2011 at 10:08hrs | Views
Recent media reports confirmed that there is a dramatic increased in car remote blocking crime.  Thieves are now using technology against us by blocking radio signals from car key remotes.

Because of this interference, although you activate your remote in the usual fashion when leaving your car, you may miss the fact that the comforting 'bleep' you expect has not happened and the car doors don't actually lock, leaving the vehicle and its contents vulnerable.

This kind of activity is reportedly on the increase and it's apparently very professionally done.

The only real defence you have is to be aware of the danger and to personally check that all doors and windows are in fact locked before you walk away from the vehicle.  Try not to leave valuable items in your vehicle whilst parked in public areas.  Park in a safe area closer to entrances, preferably with plenty of people about, security guards present and at night, in a well lit area.

The harsh fact is that, most insurance policies will not pay out unless there is evidence of forced entry into the vehicle.

When it comes to By Preference, please note that:
√¢‚Ǩ¬¢ the Unspecified  Wearing Apparel and Personal Effects Section of your policy excludes loss of property from an unoccupied vehicle unless there is evidence of forcible and violent entry.
• This restriction does not apply to specified items under the All Risks Section of your policy and should you require cover for items you carry with you, please contact us to arrange cover.

Should you enjoy Assets All Risks cover under the Contents section of your policy, you need not worry.
