ANSWERS
- The context of the gobbet is when Nathan the court prophet informing King David that he was the chosen King to lead the Israelites. The form of the gobbet its an oracle for it is directly coming from the prophet. The source of this extract is J-SOURCE ,because the name of the deity "LORD" is in capitals and the extract glorifies King David[the characteristics of J -SOURCE .Nathan as a prophet was involved in the establishment and protection of the Davidic covenant.
The prophet uses messenger style of speech, thus leading one to conclude that Nathan was a true prophet. This is also the criteria of distinguishing between true and false prophets. The extract gives us a vivid picture about relationship between King and prophet (amicable relationship).Dr Thomas Constable notes that God had blessed David in the past by choosing him as Israel's sheppard-King,by being with him in a blessing, and by cutting off all David's enemies.
