Matabeleland unite and fight for your own human rights

11 Dec 2016 at 12:53hrs | Views

Today the 10th of December 2016 Save Matabeleland Coalition (SAMACO) joins other organizations in Matabeleland and the rest of the world in observing and commemorating the International Human Rights Day.

The Human Rights Day is observed by the international community every year on 10 December. It commemorates the day in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The formal inception of Human Rights Day dates from 1950, after the Assembly passed resolution 423 (V) inviting all States and interested organizations to adopt 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day. When the General Assembly adopted the Declaration, with 48 states in favor and eight abstentions, it was proclaimed as a "common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations", towards which individuals and societies should "strive by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance". http://www.ohchr.org/EN/AboutUs/Pages/HumanRightsDay.aspx

Matabeleland in its geo – political construct within the present State of Zimbabwe has suffered unparalleled and massive Human Rights Violations which has to date included a physical genocide that has been transformed into structural forms. The structural manifestation of the Genocidal Conspiracy against the people of Matabeleland have included first the bastardization of its unique diverse community fermented through sponsored contested identity debates. Secondly it has been extended through blatant public denial of the Past and present atrocities and more disappointingly the wider international development and diplomatic community has continued with its policy of down playing or ignoring the sad dark history of Matabeleland. The ramifactions and repercussions of this policy has extended to all aspects of the life of the ordinary Matabeleland citizen. While a sense of hopelessness self doubt and fear has gripped the people of Matabeleland the scattered nation has lost all the direction and ethos of a progressive community marred by dis fragmentation and massive disunity.

Save Matabeleland Coalition (SAMACO) maintains its position backed by undeniable facts and historically referenced evidence that problems in this country are particular and general. Particular to the Matabele Constituency and general to the Zimbabwean Community. We believe focusing and dealing with the particular problems is indeed the key to finding solutions to the general problems. The particular specifications of the problems are to some extent the foundational solutions to a distressed nation which has for a long time been built on racial and tribal lines. To these very truths the Statement is targeted to the very victims themselves. Save Matabeleland Coalition calls on the whole Matabeleland Community to unite and fight for their fundamental freedoms denied to them for decades and a very threat to their continued existence. We would like to remind the Matabeleland community indigenous and migrant that no one will ever fight for their rights, however the world will join a people who show a resolve to live and to exist.

While acknowledging that the environment that we find ourselves living in is dangerous we would also like to point out that we have no choice as a people. We cannot exist as second class citizens, we cannot exist in fear neither can we apologize for who we are, for what we have suffered and above everything we cannot pretend anymore. We are drowning everyday in our own tears and we sleep awake because of fear it is now that we need a place where we can all walk together to a land where everyone feels alive and where everyone will play their part. Stormy weathers will be there despite this we must know and understand that though we will stumble but we won't fall. Today as we observe this day we must think of the bones scattered all over our land of the blood that has sucked our rivers dry of the tears that have in turn filled our dry rivers. We must indeed shift the paradigm, shift our attitudes and all of us be pro active through our institutes our individual capacities and all in all platforms from the local to the National and International levels.

As we observe this day we must as a people understand that we have the right to life which in itself is inalienable it cannot be bought, sold, traded or transferred and we must also understand that our very identity is inalienable and cannot be erased from the earth. Just like the Holocaust in Germany failed to completely annihilate jews, just like the Rwandan genocide was a momentous failure just like even the very genocide Genocide that was attempted against us failed to completely eliminate the peoples and nations of Matabeleland.in their diversity. We must as we observe this day believe that we will live again not exist but live truly live as a people who are free to claim their identity and enjoy the God given right to life. As we observe this day we must also understand that only us as the people of Matabeleland understand our plight do not expert the perpetrator to understand our fears our trials and tribulations as well as our future aspirations.

May God bless you as we observe this day and give you strength to face first above everything yourselves and fears that have inhibited your emancipation. May God give you the strength to start walking that divine journey of fighting for and seeking retribution, justice and indeed the true meaning of life itself.
