Dudu Masaiti responds to ZAPU To Split Before General Elections by Nqobile Sibanda
Zapu is wiser than Zanu or MDC and in fact Zapu is the wise mother of both. The talk of split is a language synonymous to MDC and Zanu which will never happen in Zapu.
The strongest menu of political splits in Africa is tribalism which is not applicable to Zapu a truly rainbow party formed by truly rainbow people. Zapu is a composition of rainbow colors that were put together by Mzilikazi a century before Zapu founders like Joshua Nkomo were born.
Mzilikazi left KwaZulu in 1819 with 600 men heading to Zimbabwe. On his way he raided other weaker nations like the Sotho, Swazi, Tswana, and on arrival to Zimbabwe he conquered the Shona, Tonga, Venda, Karanga and the Rozvi and successfully amalgamated them to form the Ndebele nation. Bear in mind that the Shona are actually Ndebele because Mzilikazi said so and they make 87% of the Ndebele nation. The Tonga, Venda, Suthu, Kalanga are all but Ndebele because Mzilikazi said so.
It is therefore impossible for one to split out of self.
Zapu is all Zimbabwean man's proud symbol of unbreakable unity because even if we would try, our blood that was diluted through marriage since Mzilikazi made us to intermarry from 1830, is inseparable. It is easy for anyone who consider themselves as Karanga or Zezuru to split on tribal clear lines. But in Zapu, no one can claim their tribe to be on the drive over the other because we are Mzilikazi products of Unity since 200 ago years.
This is the reason why we introduced Mugabe into thinking politically at the age of 37 and like any ungrateful character he seems to have forgotten that.
Any planned split in Zapu by way of stealing our members is not going to work as there is no strong basis to do that and as far as I know Tamsanqa Zhou, I doubt if he is thinking along those lines.
The problem with us youth is that we are too tempted to blackmail each other at the expense of the bigger picture which is our freedom fro tyranny.
We are too quick to plot conspiracy theories and we are not aware that disunity is an instrument to get us abused by Zanu.
Like myself, every youth in UK are very angry the way Zapu is being subdued deliberately by people who like power but are not doing the work for the party. We are angry for poor decisions taken by old and slow Council of Elders and their weakness to fail to stand up against people in higher office who use the Council of elders to settle personal grudges. We are angry that the greed of some people in power makes them want to dictate who to put in office outside the democratic vote. We are angry that the Council of elders fail to conduct free and FAIR elections with some elections held at 19:00 when the delegates would have left at 17:00 at a meeting that started at 11:00.
Our anger does not direct us to split like Zanu or MDC but to take the spanners and fix our vehicle or even change the engine. We believe old engines used to function very well the year they were new but now is the time for newer and more efficient engines. We cant be crucified for demanding change after noticing a series of faults with the Council of elders.
Another untold story is that one of one top official whose name is expensive to give who wants to unilaterally decide how party coffers in UK should be used to finance his Globe trotting habit. He does not want to follow channels agreed upon and wants to phone the Party Treasurer to dispatch Party funds when ever he decides. If the treasure declines backdoor deals he calls the Council of elders to suspend the honest party Treasurer.
The province then says it wants that official called and it is democratic enough to do that because we want prudence in our coffers. We are still small and cant afford luxury appetites and unless reasons are given, no one will understand us. The party listens more to corrupt people because they talk and write professionally and eloquently and this is the criteria that produced a problematic Mugabe.
As for the split, get my guarantees very well, you wont see that in Zapu. Any one with a mindset like that must go and join Zanu and MDC but in Zapu, it is just not possible. We are different tribal groups that were cemented together by the history of Mzilikazi which brought the Shona and Ndebele together and made them intermarry and multiply enough to kill the element of tribalism.
