Unity of the ZAPU is not a mechanical unity of its factions or individual leaders, it is sacrosanct and not a croissant. Unity of the ZAPU is our birth right in JOSHUA NKOMO's words "it is a source of our collective inspiration and drive to forge ahead for a particular well defined purpose. Any call for unity in the ZAPU is actually a call for comrades and cadres of the movement to go back to basic, it must show political thought, rigor and spontaneity by those propagating for it. Perhaps it is also important to add that unity in the ZAPU has always been "unity of purpose" and nothing more.
In common language, it means the ability to identify, negotiate and resolve political differences that hamper organisational progress. An attempt by factions and leaders of the ZAPU at any level of the organisation to call for unity for other reasons other than those articulated above is a sign of confusion, desperation and lack of understanding on what unity of the ZAPU is all about.
Greedy factional and selfish leaders in the ZAPU have a tendency to call for unity, to either advance personal interest or use 'unity of the ZAPU to promote personal agendas, which actually have nothing to do with the ZAPU. At worst, these "Factional Chiefs" might actually be calling for 'unity of the ZAPU for nefarious political reasons to selfishly propel themselves into positions of power at the expense or exclusion of others.
Most of the time, it is the very ZAPU factional leaders who actually hamper organisational progress due to their divisive political aloofness , inconsistent character and naivety. It is therefore important for comrades at branches of the ZAPU to check and understand why individual ZAPU leaders call for unity when it suites them. Branches of the ZAPU must clarify themselves before they are hoodwinked into programmes that appear to be radical but which are just a fuss when you remove the veil of political secrecy and the malicious intent associated.
Beware of advanced factionalism and its "Factional Chiefs" who are in unison masquerading as real leaders of ZAPU while they are a political scam. In conclusion, it must be understood that the unity of ZAPU should always be for reasons (i.e. purpose) that will strengthen the movement and not a sugar coated means to an end, which is intended to promote factional chiefs or selfish individual leaders and their aloof, myopic, selfish, stupid political ends _it must be an end in itself. It is important to always share lessons for the new and old cadre in the 21st century milieu of ZAPU politics, must always learn and relearn to stay vigilant. The cornerstone of a united and strong ZAPU rest on a politically well educated cadre of the ZAPU in the current epoch of struggle for true socio-economic empowerment
