Leadership crisis is looming
05 Apr 2017 at 09:18hrs | Views
Honestly we have a serious crisis in this country. The untold suffering in this country were 93% of the whole country is unemployed has reached unprecedented levels. We have a leadership crisis in this country. No amount of intimidation or violence will stop this reflection. Poverty levels has reached unprecedented crisis. We have a great task. The current Government must be put to task. We need to be realistic interms of the crisis in this country. We as development analysts and academics we cannot be seen to be quiet when the situation is getting out of hand. To be honest Zanu Pf Government has messed up big time, its high time they have to own up. There is no need for one to be hostile when we are supposed to come up with solutions for this country. We have areas that have been affected by floods and who cares for those people?
Crisis 1 - Leadership
We have a serious leadership vacuum in this country. The citizenry expects the head of State and Government to arrest corrupt ministers, fire incompetent Government officials, addressing hunger issues, poverty issues, productivity issues etc. these issues are supposed to be tackled urgently. We have a serious crisis which need urgent attention. Zimbabwe is slowly sliding into turmoil and civil war is looming if the crisis is not checked. We cannot pretend as if things are well when in fact things are getting out of hand. We have a duty and obligation as citizenry to point and air out areas which needs urgent correction. The Zanu Pf Government should be responsible for this mess. Yes it's good for the government of the day to issue out land to its citizens but it is not wise for the Government to pretend as if things are normal when in fact majority of Zimbabweans are languishing in poverty. Majority of the people are going for days without proper meals and some are surviving with less than a dollar a day. Zimbabwe has gone below the belt its high time people have to call a spade a spade.
Crisis 2 - Succession
The succession battles in Zanu Pf party have the potential to cause civil war in Zimbabwe. Investors have employed the wait and see approach till the dust have settled. We have an unanswered question and it is the succession matrix. The current wars have the potential to implode in this country. Honestly succession matters have brought the economy on its knees. It will be very difficult to have a good economic recovery till we have resolved the succession battles. It is not a Zanu Pf issue rather but it is a national matter. We encourage the parliament of Zimbabwe to put to finality the issue of succession.
Crisis 3 - Economy
Zimbabwe economy is literally dead. We cannot talk about the economy anymore in this country. Industry is dead, our productivity levels have gone down. All potential investors have been scared away by conflicting statements by ministers from the same Government. We are really in difficult times. Zimbabwe needs prayers. Bank ques have risen and we have cash crisis. The Government is continuing to print money when we are not manufacturing anything. What this Government is doing they are not telling people the truth but the truth of the matter is that they are printing money. Their headache is the economy. Most banks have run out of cash, and it is now difficult to do business because of liquidity crisis. How do this Government Govern this country when they are battling to control the economy? The economy cannot be ignored it is an important factor in our daily lives.
Crisis 4 - Corruption and Incompetence
Zimbabwe is one of the countries in the SADC region with high corruption and incompetent government officials. We are in this mess because of corruption and incompetence. We had Mazda willovale corruption, RBZ scandals which were exposed by Kereke and other officials, we have Marange diamond issues and just to mention a few. Recently we had over 15 billion diamonds missing and nothing materialised. Honestly since the inception of the current cabinet, more than half of the ministers have gone into hiding, and in fact some of them do not even know their roles and objectives and why they are in the Government. We have the likes of Kasukuwere who messed up during the time when he was the empowerment minister and as we speak he has messed up big time in the local Government ministry. Zimbabwe needs only 8 ministers and the permanent secretaries should be in place to assist the ministers in order to cut expenditure. In the education sector we have a drunkard minister who is smoking something and he is the worst minister we have ever had in Zimbabwe.
Crisis 5 - Awarding of Government Tenders
We have a serious problem when awarding tenders. Most of the Government tenders are awarded on political connections. Tenders should be awarded on professional guidelines. We are in this mess because of awarding tenders to criminals who have criminal records in the past. ZETDC is one of the few remaining parastatals but it has been affected by serious corruption. Most of the ZESA tenders have been awarded to criminals and political connected and it is difficult for those corrupt elements to account for public funds.
