Independence goes beyond propaganda of it!
12 Apr 2017 at 18:31hrs | Views
Zimbabwe is turning 37 next week Tuesday on the 18th of April 2017. Like any other year we hear a lot of propaganda on and around the Independence Celebrations .
At all levels serious mobilisation of resources and people around this is happening !! My biggest question is, What is all this independence about other than the propaganda of it? Are these celebrations really worth it for the impoverished majority of Zimbweans given the situation that there is literary nothing to show for it to date as a product of the very struggle for us. Only the minority who happen to replace Ian Smith are enjoying this independence on behalf of everyone else.
Real independence does not need an interpreter to describe as we see today!! People should actually feel it, live it , enjoy it and benefit from the very independence and celebrating such becomes automatic coming from within.
Why did we go to war if the same oppression which we saw under Smith is now manifesting even as doubled under our current black government. When the streets we were crying to walk in are now full of potholes which are now death traps!! The Land we wanted is now most of it in the hands of the minority who greedily grabbed it without knowing of how to use it, rendering Zimbabwe the begging basket instead of the breadbasket of Africa.
Its now survival of the fittest, no respect of the rule of law ,gross human rights violations all this in the umbrella of independence. Independence without signs and symptoms of it is not independence at all. ln fact it is not worth any celebrations. People, particularly the youth at this moment should be channelling all the energy towards fighting for proper Independence that should come along with jobs, good quality Health services, quality education systems, respect for human rights and freedoms among other key issues.
