Rural teachers to host a curriculum that works forum
25 Apr 2017 at 18:45hrs | Views
The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), will tomorrow, 26 April 2017, kick start a nationwide process of engaging on innovative protests against the 'Dokora' (also read as NEW) curriculum which is being imposed on learners and teachers alike despite it having proved to be incompatible with our education system and our socio-economic realities.
So far the Dokora curriculum has been a big disaster for learners and teachers as they grapple with a huge work load that will neither improve our education system nor equip learners with skills relevant for our economy as envisaged in the Nziramasanga commission report (1999).
It is in this light that ARTUZ will host a 'Curriculum that works protest' by teaching a curriculum that is compatible with our education system and socio-economic realities of Zimbabwe in Arcturus Mine starting at 0900hrs until 1500hrs.
This forum is part of many that will follow where ARTUZ will defy the disastrous road which the obdurate and arrogant Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Lazarus Dokora, is determined to drag the country down.
His stiff arrogance amid evidence of total failure of his proposals show that unless he is challenged on the ground he will not stop to destroy what is left of our education system. If this is not done, the current and future pupils will be laden with useless information that is irrelevant to the fast changing world we now live in.
After all Dokora's children do not learn in Zimbabwe as they have been exported to exotic learning centres across the globe in countries like Singapore, China and South Africa. This is the reason why he is determined to continue with is catastrophic policies which have only served to erode the gains made during the inlcusive government period when a level headed minister was in charge of the portfolio.
The ARTUZ activity will involve teaching of modules on horticulture processing and marketing. environment for a mining area, public health education and constitutionalism and human rights.
ARTUZ will keep giving updates of the activity.
