Are elections really necessary and important?
25 Apr 2017 at 19:36hrs | Views
I stand to differ when Zimbabwe is held to ransom with few individuals who are obsessed with power. The dimensions in the current state of affairs of this country do not require an election but rather national dialogue. I stand to be corrected we are heading for a blood bath. People tend to forget the consequences of election matters beginning with gukurahundi massacres, the inconclusive 2008 elections, the bitterly contested 2013 elections and honestly what have these elections brought in our country. These elections have brought hate, discomfort amongst politicians, bloodshed, divisive politics, use of hate language, differences and honestly most structures in rural areas have been brought down.
Who Really Suffers when Elections Are Held?
The answer is it is the ordinary Zimbabweans who suffer. If you look at these MOUs were signed in beautiful homes, where power is defined, when these politicians went around in urban and rural areas most opposition members were left homeless and some even suffered to the most and these senior politicians will be dining in their homes, moving around with good luxury vehicles at the expense of ordinary citizens. Zimbabweans must wake up to reality and stop this madness of elections.
Divert Election Resources for Development
If I had the power I would suggest to divert all election resources to development, roads construction, water treatment, hospital renovations. In the previous elections in Zimbabwe, election resources have gobbled up to 180 million and that is a lot of money, what has it achieved nothing why because the situation has remained the same. We need proper development both urban and rural set up. We need development. People are tired of slogans and lies ahead of election, most politicians have failed to fulfil their promises in their constituencies probably because of election fever. Election fever has gripped Zimbabwe to an extend that development has been crippled and it is unfair to the future generation of this country.
Time Wasted on Social Media Platforms on Election Matters
I've been following social media, Facebook, twitter and other platforms and honestly one would wonder how these young people are surviving instead of looking for future opportunities people are busy posting election matters and most of these young people are using emotions, I'm not there to defend anyone or any government but I want to make it clear that work on something rather than wasting time busy trying to solve something which is above board or beyond you. We have so many things to do, let's look for viable opportunities in life which can build us.
A Cycle of Election Candidates Do Not Change Anything
Ask yourself how many candidates benefited from these politicians. The most people who suffer are ordinary supporters who are frog marched to rallies, after those rallies they go home with their empty stomachs, and speaker after speaker after leaving the podium they will be making press conferences in hotels when you are languishing in poverty. During the last 19 years or the 37 years of independence the minority are the one who have benefitted the rest are walking barely footed. What pains me most is the rural folk they walk for more than 7 to 8 kilometres to listen to empty speeches and nothing fruitful takes place. When donors dish out money it goes into the pockets of these giants in politics and the rest thrive for the remaining's under the table.
How Many People Have Lost Their Lives Because of Politics?
So many lives have been lost who cares? It is the duty of every man to focus on development and the affairs of your family rather than trying to build someone who will never assist you in life. I feel pity for people who follow these politicians day after day wherever they go, they have made it already, they have mansions and they live large whilst you are languishing in poverty in those scrappy suburbs. You should think twice people you join this dirty game. Think about your family, children and dependents before you rush into these things. After burial they go back to Harare to watch soccer whilst those children of the deceased are languishing in deep poverty, and who cares? No one. I've made a survey that most opposition senior officials who went into the GNU are living large whilst their supporters and workers are in deep slumber. They only think of them during election time when there is political bickering.
The Election Talk Has Crippled the Economy
Since the talk of the election issue, business has literary gone down. I've been analysing facts as they are, since January 2017 the opposition has been so much noise about election reforms and honestly speaking investors have been scared away and this is not good for our country. Are elections really important and necessary? There is serious liquidity crunch in this country and everyone is keeping foreign currency safe for fear of violence and other factors. People are not yet sure of what is going to take place and by the time we reach 2018 most people won't even afford a meal per day and who cares?
