"It is when we accept what is normal that lead us to fall into the pit of mediocrity" The Innovative Author.

What is the general conception about Africa? Well it is a question that has been a common occurence in so many conversations and has shaped the general conception of the continent as a whole.

In most features Africa has been relegated to the backseat of all development and within the continent this has imparted a lot on how individuals in the continent live their lives.

Many times the situations individuals come across with every experience daily with common trends that have been accepted to be normal.

It is what I call the ' normal bias' which is a scenario whereby human beings opts to be in the comfortable state yet the surroundings require individuals to change.

A closer look at how we have developed as a continent one would wonder why the African is still in the same place regardless of what is happening in our environment. In this age of more connectedness in the global world it is my belief that its time that the African take up their place in the world and be at the forefront of development that is shaping the world as well. However taking a closer look one would take note of the factors that might hinder all this which is the general conception of accepting the normal as well as a system that lacks accountability from individual to societal level.

It has become normal to talk about improving our continent and we do nothing about it. It has become normal to come up with plans to develop ourselves yet no action is taken in that regard. It has become normal for the African to just live a normal life filled with mediocrity, lacking purpose and drive .

The general thinking thats driving our continent has led us to accept of whats on the ground yet there is a lot better that we can have. Our forefathers came played their role in shaping our story they left a unique legacy that resembles our identity which we have a choice on whether we can develop it further contributing to it or we just marvel at what they managed to do and we do nothing to add value to that legacy. My call to Africans is to push the boundaries which have been deemed as normal. The normal bias is the gateway to mediocrity which allows for one to remain where they are and creates acceptance of being ordinary.

Take a stand in changing the course of our continent it is not normal to be satisfied with where we are as Africans let us question our thinking as well as our actions.

Let us marry our plans with action do away with the general state of affairs in our continent. Raise your standards, go the extra mile in all your undertakings, in whatever space you are in.

As we continue in our endeavours let ensure we are doing great work which will greatly contribute to the African legacy.

The time has come for all Africans to tap into their hidden reserves and unleash the treasures they have within them. Africa arise think different and be the difference. Shift the narrative.
