The Army is Mugabe's Frankenstein

Contrary to Grace's reckless coup speak, the involvement of the army in ZANU PF affairs is an agreement that was reached when Grace was only 10 years old. Then Mugabe took on to the airwaves in 1976 from Mozambique and said,
"Our votes must go together with our guns. After all, any vote we shall have, shall have been the product of the gun. The gun which produces the vote should remain its security officer - its guarantor. The people's votes and the people's guns are always inseparable twins."
By that statement, a bond was created between civilians and the army in ZANU PF. The army is just continuing its mandate to guarantee ZANU PF continuing existence. In ZANU PF affairs, the army has the final say on who takes over from Mugabe. Mugabe knows that because he signed the covenant. His attempt to use the constitution now is a ruse. To achieve his overriding ambition of total control, Mugabe has always used the army. He can't dump them like used condoms as he did with the war veterans.
Grace is misguided and displays a lack of understanding of ZANU PF political dynamics. The army is keeping Mugabe in power in line with the covenant. If the situation becomes unattainable, they will not hesitate to remove Mugabe from power.
It is a bit surprising that a woman who claims to be going down on the geriatric will not be aware of such a simple and straightforward agreement. As for the details, I can forgive her for she cannot begin to mount the rungs of politics irrespective of any training; the woman just doesn't get it.
